Italy reports 13,073 Covid-19 cases per week
Rome: From September 26th to October 2nd, Italian authorities reported on Sunday 13,073 Coivd-19 cases and 85 deaths from the disease, with more infections and fewer deaths than the previous week.
The Higher Institute of Health (ISS) announced that the upturn of cases was 17 percent compared to the 11,164 registered from September 19th to 25th, but deaths lowered by 24.1 percent compared to the 112 deaths that occurred in the earlier week. A total of 95,017 tests for the presence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus had been carried out in the last period analyzed, some 12 percent more than the 85,030 of the previous week, and the positivity rate rose 0.6 percent.
The ISS briefing specifies that there are circulating different sub-variants of JN.1 that attract international attention, with a predominance of KP.3.1.1.1, and the proportion of sequences attributable to the recombinant XEC lineage is also growing.”
Based on these data from the Italian healthcare authorities, 216,335 people in Italy remain positive for the coronavirus, of whom 214,195 are isolated at home, while 2,067 are in general hospital wards and 73 are in intensive care units.
