Italy’s aircraft carrier docks in Karachi for defence forum
The aircraft carrier’s arrival focuses on fostering discussions on defence and security collaborations.
An Italian aircraft carrier has arrived at Karachi port, marking a significant moment for industrial collaboration between Italy and Pakistan. The vessel, known as al Pino, is equipped with advanced frigate technology and will be docked from 14 to 16 October.
Today, a Defence Industry Forum is set to take place aboard the Italian ship. The event is organised by the Secretariat General of Defence and National Armament Directorate, with support from the Federation of Italian Companies for Aerospace, Defence and Security.
The arrival of the Italian naval vessel aims to enhance discussions between key industries in both countries. Marilena Armellini, the Italian Ambassador to Pakistan, will conduct a press conference on the ship to brief attendees about the objectives of this visit.
Last year, Italian Navy Ship MOROSINI visited Karachi and conducted bilateral exercise with Pakistan Navy.
Upon arrival at the Karachi Port, the Italian navy ship was warmly welcomed by senior officials of the Pakistan Navy and the ambassador of Italy, a Pakistan Navy statement said.
On completion of the port visit, Pakistan Navy ship SHAHJAHAN with embarked helicopter and PAF fighters carried out a sea exercise with a visiting Italian ship to enhance interoperability between both navies.
Concurrent to the ship’s visit, Military Personnel of the Italian Navy Director Vice Admiral Andrea Gueglio visited Pakistan and called on Pakistan Fleet Commander Vice Admiral Muhammad Faisal Abbasi.
During the meeting, matters of mutual interest and avenues for future collaboration to enhance regional maritime security were discussed.
