6th Zhengzhou Seed Expo Opens, Pioneering a New Chapter in the Vegetable Industry

Zhengzhou:The 6th Zhengzhou Seed Expo and the 9th Central China International Seed Technology Exhibition kicked off on October 26 in Huiji District’s Zhongyuan Seed Technology Park.

The event attracted seed industry experts, vegetable growers, and seed distributors from across the country to explore new vegetable varieties, engage in trade, and discuss the revitalization of the seed industry, marking a new chapter in the sector’s development.

The expo, the largest vegetable variety showcase in China, runs from October 25 to 27 and features numerous activities, including vegetable variety observation meetings, the Central China Seed Forum, and the 2024 Zhengzhou Vegetable Culture Festival. The opening ceremony included the signing of a modern seed industry strategic cooperation agreement between the Henan Zhongyuan Agriculture Valley Administrative Committee and the Zhengzhou Municipal Government, officially inaugurating the Zhongyuan Agriculture Valley (Zhengzhou) Seed Innovation Base. The initiative aims to enhance the seed industry in the region and accelerate agricultural development in Henan.

The expo highlights the importance of seed industry revitalization as a critical component of China’s agricultural development strategy, aiming to boost seed quality and yield through technological innovation and variety improvement. Huiji District integrates seed industry and rural revitalization strategies to create a professional and large-scale event. Various observation meetings will be held, featuring experts discussing new vegetable varieties, advanced production technologies, and industry trends.

The expo introduces cutting-edge agricultural practices, including green pest control technologies like sex pheromone traps and physical pest barriers, as well as efficient farming techniques such as water-saving irrigation and precision fertilization. These innovations aim to enhance the sustainability and efficiency of vegetable production, pushing the industry toward modernization.

As part of the country’s strategy for ecological protection and sustainable development in the Yellow River basin, the expo covers 200,000 square meters and includes 100 display greenhouses, a 130,000-square-meter open-air exhibition area, and a nearly 20,000-square-meter brand pavilion. With over 800 exhibitors showcasing more than 6,000 new and improved vegetable and sweet corn varieties from 330 breeding institutions worldwide, the event demonstrates the diversity and professionalism of the industry.

The expo also hosts the 2nd Zhengzhou Vegetable Agricultural Inputs Full-Industry Chain Conference, covering everything from seeds to packaging equipment and greenhouse supplies, providing a one-stop platform for transactions. A mechanization display area offers live demonstrations of modern agricultural processes from sowing and transplanting to integrated irrigation and harvesting.

Leveraging the advantages of major vegetable-producing regions such as Henan, Shandong, and Hebei, Zhengzhou’s Huiji District has combined the seed expo with local rural development to stimulate economic growth in the Yellow River region. The event aims to improve farmers’ productivity and incomes by showcasing advanced agricultural technology and quality seed resources.

Activities like the Central China Seed Forum and the 2024 Zhengzhou Vegetable Culture Festival invite industry professionals to discuss seed innovation and rural revitalization while engaging urban and rural residents in cultural events such as vegetable photography, culinary experiences, and music festivals.

The expo is organized with the guidance of several agricultural institutions, including the China Seed Association and the Henan Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and hosted by the Zhengzhou Municipal Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau, Huiji District People’s Government, and other local bodies.
