Henan Champions Visit Schools to Inspire Youth in Sports
Xinxiang: This week football champions Mao Jianwei and Zhang Ying visited Yangshan Foreign Language Primary School in Xinxiang as part of the 2024 “Run, Youngsters” champion-in-school program.
They shared training techniques, conducted football drills, and engaged students in skill-building activities such as dribbling, passing, and shooting.
The event, hosted by Henan’s sports and educational authorities, aims to encourage young people’s involvement in sports, enhance physical fitness, and promote the spirit of Chinese sports. The champions acted as sports instructors for the day, blending professional training with interactive games to deepen students’ understanding of football.
Mao Jianwei expressed his delight at the students’ enthusiasm, noting, “The kids asked a lot of questions, and I’m happy to help them train scientifically. I hope they continue to strengthen their bodies and experience the spirit of sports.”
This year’s program, which has been expanding annually, includes basketball, volleyball, table tennis, martial arts, athletics, tennis, gymnastics, and more. Athletes will conduct in-person lessons, demonstrations, and interactive sessions in schools across the province, fostering hands-on learning.
On October 22, basketball champions Li Pengpeng and Wang Liangruibo visited the Second Experimental Primary School in Dan County, Zhoukou. They taught essential basketball techniques, boosting the skills of the school’s team. The event also featured training games, with students displaying determination and energy, embodying the spirit of today’s youth.
On October 23, fencing champions Fan Jiahao and Zhang Junlong introduced students at Zhumadian’s 21st Primary School to the basics of sabre, foil, and épée, covering tactics and fencing etiquette. Their on-site demonstrations captivated the students, providing a unique physical education experience.
A Henan Sports Bureau representative emphasized that the program strengthens the integration of sports and education. By sharing their success stories, champion athletes motivate young people to pursue sports with dedication, helping them develop healthy bodies and minds. The initiative aims to instill correct values in students, encouraging them to strive toward their goals with determination and resilience, while embodying the enduring spirit of Chinese sports.
