Zhengzhou: On November 14, China reached a significant milestone in the new energy vehicle (NEV) industry, becoming the first country in the world to achieve an annual production volume surpassing 10,000,000 vehicles.

This marks a major achievement in the global shift toward sustainable transportation. At the same time, Central China’s Henan province, which has rapidly emerged as a key player in the NEV industry in recent years, has also made remarkable contributions to this historic moment.

During the first three quarters of this year, the production of NEVs in Zhengzhou reached 700,000 units, surpassing the total production for the entire previous year. Meanwhile, in Henan, the NEV production volume expanded by 140.5 percent year-on-year to 401,000 units, accounting for 47.7 percent of the province’s total vehicle production. This growth rate is significantly higher than the national average, according to the local authorities.

In the evolving automotive arena, Henan has stridden intothe forefront of the nation, with its trillion-yuan NEVindustry shifting from a vision to reality.

In Zhengzhou Airport EconomyZone, NEVs are assembled and roll off the production lines; in Kaifeng, automotive component production has reached a significant scale; in Luoyang, the power battery industry, known as the “heart of the automobile”,is flourishing. From the settlement of Chery and SAIC to the establishment of BYD, leading industry players have made strategic investments in the region. Local Henan brands, such as Yutong, are also strengthening their presence. Multiple regions across the province are developing in synergy, quietly forming a new energy vehicle manufacturing hub in the Central Plains.

Currently, Henan is home to 17 complete vehicle manufacturers and over 600 automotive component enterprises above the designated size. The province has essentially built a full industrial chain, covering everything from raw materials and core components to complete vehicles, supporting equipment, and the Internet of Things.

Strong production and sales have driven Henan’s foreign trade to grow against the trend. According to statistics from Zhengzhou Customs, the rapid export growth of automobiles, aluminum materials, silver, and furniture were the key highlights of Henan’s foreign trade in the first ten months, boosting the province’s export growth rate by 3.1 percentage points. Among these, electric vehicle exports reached 6.03 billion yuan, marking a year-on-year increase of 72.7percent.

With the official opening of Zhengzhou International Land Port and the completion of the dedicated railway, Henan’s NEVs now have a new channel for export. Leveraging the China Railway Express, the province has established specialized service stations, enabling automotive products to reach Europe directly in just 15 days. In the future, more “Made in Henan” NEVs are set to be exported to markets around the world.
