Islamabad: Andrew Dalgleish, a distinguished British diplomat, is leaving Pakistan as the Deputy High Commissioner of the United Kingdom in Pakistan and now prepares to assume his new role as the British Ambassador to France.

With a career spanning decades of service, Dalgleish has been recognized for his leadership, diplomacy, and commitment to fostering international relationships.

Dalgleish took up the position of Deputy High Commissioner in Pakistan in July 2022, a role that demonstrated his ability to navigate complex geopolitical landscapes.

His tenure was marked by efforts to strengthen UK-Pakistan ties, especially during challenging times.

As Acting High Commissioner in 2023, he emphasized transparency and accountability in Pakistan’s use of international aid, showcasing his dedication to both diplomacy and ethical governance.

During his time in Pakistan, Dalgleish fostered cooperation in trade, education, and cultural exchanges, reinforcing the UK’s commitment to its historical partnership with Pakistan. His approachable demeanor and strategic foresight earned him admiration from colleagues and stakeholders alike.

Before his time in Pakistan, Dalgleish served as Ambassador to Croatia from 2016 to 2021. There, he navigated significant challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, and reassured Croatian citizens of their rights during Brexit uncertainties. Dalgleish’s earlier assignments include serving as Deputy Head of Mission in Seoul, South Korea, from 2011 to 2015, where he played a pivotal role in enhancing UK-Korea relations. Born on December 17, 1975, Dalgleish studied European Law at the University of Warwick, graduating with first-class honors. His academic pursuits included a year at Montesquieu University in Bordeaux, where he deepened his understanding of French law—a fitting prelude to his upcoming ambassadorial post in France.

On Saturday night, British High Comsioner Jane Marriott hosted a farewell dinner for Andrew Dalgleish, his wife and friends in Pakistan. The outgoing Deputy High Commissioner thanked the Pakistani friends for supporting him and the trust in his abilities. He promised to keep coming in Pakistan whenever possible.

In her speech, Jane Marriott appreciated the services of Andrew Dalgleish as her deputy. She also congratulated him on promotion and wished her good luck for the future assignment which he will take up in a few weeks.
