Negotiations between China and the EU regarding a proposed price commitment plan related to tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles (EVs) are ongoing, He Yadong, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) said on Thursday in response to a report by German media on November 22, which suggested that both parties are close to a resolution on eliminating these tariffs.

“Properly resolving the EU’s anti-subsidy investigation into Chinese EVs is widely expected by both China and the EU. Based on agreed principles and with input from technical teams, multiple rounds of intensive negotiations have been conducted on the proposed price commitment plan for Chinese EV imports, resulting in some progress through considerable effort,” He said.

Negotiations are ongoing, and China expresses hope that both sides will approach the matter pragmatically and with balance, by addressing mutual concerns and aligning with the expectations of various sectors in both China and the EU to achieve meaningful results, according to the spokesperson.

China and the EU are reportedly close to reaching a solution to eliminate tariffs on Chinese EV imports into the bloc, according to Bernd Lange, chair of the European Parliament’s trade committee, German broadcaster n-tv reported on November 22.
