China’s first largest-diameter overflow ball mill shines in Ghana

Zhengzhou: Developed by CITIC Heavy Industries Co., Ltd., China’s first domestically produced overflow ball mill with the largest diameter successfully completed its first trial run at a mining site in Nanmutuni, Ghana, according to the company on November 29.

It is the largest ball mill ever exported to the overseas market, representing significant advancements in technical performance, manufacturing process, and processing period.

This overflow ball mill, with a diameter of 8.2 meters and a length of 12.7 meters, is a key equipment for the Namutoni gold mining project. It successfully passed factory tests and was delivered to the customer in August last year.

“We, in line within ter national standards, have applied key technologies such as variable frequency control of dual-drive synchronous motors, utilized three-dimensional parameterized design and smart manufacturing, representing international high-end mining equipment,” said Jin Song, General Manager of CITIC Heavy Industries (Luoyang) International Holdings Co., Ltd.

Furthermore, CITIC Heavy Industries supplied the Namutini gold mining project with two CC400 cone crushers, one PXZ54-75 gyratory crusher and one CSM-950 vertical stirred mill, all of which have been successfully commissioned. During the on-site installation and commissioning phase, CITIC Heavy Industries dispatched a total of 8 technical engineers abroad, showcasing its technical expertise and professional servicesin mineral processing.

The Namutoni gold mining project is not only the first large-scale gold mine built in Ghana by Shandong Gold Group, but also its first such project abroad. In addition, it is the first large-scale self-built project by a Chinese enterprise in West Africa, as well as the first large open-pit gold mine with a complex ore sorting and smelting process constructed by Chinese enterprises overseas. As one of the largest gold mines in West Africa, it is expected to reach an annual output of up to 300,000 ounces once fully operational.
