Outgoing US ambassador Donald Blome reflects on US-Pakistan partnership and experiences in Pakistan

Islamabad: Outgoing US Ambassador to Pakistan, Donald Blome, has expressed pride in the enduring partnership between the United States and Pakistan, as he bid farewell at the conclusion of his three-year tenure. In a heartfelt farewell video message, Ambassador Blome highlighted the achievements of the US-Pakistan partnership and shared personal reflections on his time in the country.
“During my time as US Ambassador to Pakistan, we have worked with our Pakistani friends to enter a new chapter in our partnership,” said Ambassador Blome. He emphasized that the collaboration between the two countries had tackled significant global challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the devastating floods of 2022. “We have worked together to rebuild lives, create jobs, and expand access to quality healthcare and education,” he added.
The Ambassador described his experiences in Pakistan as enriching and deeply personal. “From conversations over chai to Qawwali performances and the thrill of playing cricket, I have been privileged to experience the warmth and hospitality of Pakistan. Islamabad has truly become a home away from home,” he said.
Reflecting on his travels across Pakistan, Ambassador Blome praised the unique qualities of each region. “In Lahore, I witnessed how deeply culture and tradition are woven into the fabric of this historic city. In Punjab’s fertile fields, I walked alongside farmers, where American technology and innovation have contributed to Pakistan’s energy, water, and agriculture sectors,” he shared.
In Karachi, the Ambassador admired the city’s entrepreneurial dynamism. “Karachi is a city of entrepreneurs driving Pakistan’s economic future. During my visits, I witnessed the City of Lights’ resilience and innovation. Expanding trade and investment between our countries has been a top priority as Pakistan works to overcome economic challenges,” he noted.
Ambassador Blome also spoke fondly of Pakistan’s stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage. “From Gwadar to Gilgit, I have had the privilege of exploring this beautiful country, from the breathtaking peaks of the north to the heritage sites of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. I have been amazed by the diversity of Pakistan’s landscapes and the richness of its culture,” he said.
Concluding his message, the Ambassador expressed gratitude for his time in Pakistan and optimism for the country’s future. “It has been an honor to serve as the US Ambassador to Pakistan. I am proud of the progress we’ve achieved together and remain hopeful for Pakistan’s bright future. Phir Milein Ge (we will meet again),” he said.
