Tajani in Israel and Palestine, ‘Italy commitment to peace’
Rome: Italy’s commitment to Middle East peace was underlined by the foreign ministry Sunday in announcing the details of Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani’s trip to Israel and Palestine Monday.
The Farnesina said the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, will be on a mission to Israel and Palestine tomorrow, where he will meet the Israeli President, Isaac Herzog, the Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gideon Sa’ar, and the Palestinian Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Mohammed Mustafa.
“My visit aims to demonstrate Italy’s commitment to consolidating peace through dialogue and to building a future of hope in the Middle East,” said Minister Tajani.
“The entry into force of the agreement offers a historic opportunity for the Israeli people, for the Palestinian people and for the entire region,” continued the Minister, underlining how Italy has supported all mediation efforts to put an end to hostilities and is ready to do its part, together with international partners, to help ensure peace and promote reconstruction.
“I will confirm to the Israeli and Palestinian authorities the Italian Government’s commitment to alleviating the painful conditions of the civilian population that has suffered so much.
Our humanitarian interventions will continue and be further strengthened, including with the Food for Gaza initiative,” indicated the Minister, who will underline to his counterparts the importance of allowing large-scale access for humanitarian aid throughout the Strip.
Tajani will then reiterate the utmost attention that the Italian Government gives to the issue of post-war reconstruction in Gaza.
The issue of humanitarian assistance to the population will also be at the center of a meeting that the Minister of Foreign Affairs will have with the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa.
Finally, in Israel, the Minister will chair, together with Minister Sa’ar, a meeting with the business community, which will be attended by the President of ICE Agency Matteo Zoppas.
“The meeting will offer the opportunity to illustrate the investment opportunities between the two countries, within the framework of the growth diplomacy initiatives that we want to continue to explore, alongside our businesses,” said Tajani.
“The economic collaboration, the investments that can be built with a presence not only in Israel but throughout the region will help stabilize the area.
The path to pacification will be long and complex, but it must also be undertaken with these tools.”
