Islamabad: Pakistan has recently signed a groundbreaking agreement with Chinese and local investors to develop the Dhabeji Special Economic Zone (DSEZ) under the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

This milestone initiative represents a pivotal step in Pakistan’s efforts to expand industrialization and economic integration with China.

The project, led by the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), aims to transform Dhabeji, located near Thatta in Sindh, into a major industrial hub, officials said.

Designed as a public-private partnership, the DSEZ is projected to attract $3 billion in investments and generate over 100,000 employment opportunities, setting the stage for economic revitalization and growth.

Strategically situated near Karachi’s ports, the Dhabeji SEZ offers unparalleled access to global trade routes, making it a key location for industrial and export-oriented activities. This geographic advantage positions the zone to significantly enhance Pakistan’s industrial competitiveness and export capacity.

“The establishment of the Dhabeji Special Economic Zone is a landmark achievement in Pakistan-China industrial cooperation,” said a senior government official familiar with the project. The official emphasized that the initiative reflects the shared vision of both nations for sustainable economic growth and regional connectivity.

Chinese enterprises have already shown strong interest in investing in the zone, which will focus on promoting industrial innovation, enhancing export capabilities, and advancing Pakistan’s journey toward economic self-reliance. The initiative aligns with Pakistan’s broader strategy to stimulate economic recovery and accelerate sustainable development.

The SIFC’s leadership in this endeavor underscores the government’s dedication to fostering foreign investment and ensuring a streamlined, investor-friendly environment.

Officials expect the Dhabeji SEZ to serve as a transformative economic engine, attracting both domestic and international investors while driving industrial progress.

The development will be executed in phases under CPEC’s second stage, with a well-structured plan encompassing infrastructure development and industrial unit setup. The phased approach aims to maximize efficiency and deliver measurable outcomes, contributing to a robust and sustainable manufacturing base in Pakistan.

Industry experts anticipate that the success of the Dhabeji SEZ will set a benchmark for future special economic zones in Pakistan. It is seen as a model for effective public-private partnerships and international collaboration, reinforcing Pakistan’s position as an emerging industrial and trade hub in the region.

This strategic project is not just an industrial development but also a key step toward Pakistan’s long-term economic transformation, showcasing the enduring strength of Pakistan-China relations under the framework of CPEC.
