Paris: A plane chartered by the European Union is today transporting nearly 52 tonnes of humanitarian aid supplied by France to civilians in the Gaza Strip.

The cargo, put together by the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs’ Crisis and Support Centre, includes tents, blankets, ground sheets and tarpaulins for more than 1,000 Palestinian families in the Gaza Strip and nearly a tonne of medicines donated by the French non-profit organization Tulipe. The despatch of tents to Gaza supports the broader humanitarian efforts being conducted in particular by Jordan and Qatar.

In Amman, the shipment will be handed over to the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization, a Jordanian partner institution, which will ensure its delivery to Gaza in line with its coordinating role in this regard. Several partners of France, including the French NGOs Première Urgence Internationale and Médecins du Monde, will ensure the aid is delivered in the Gaza Strip via Jordan’s humanitarian land corridor.

France thanks the European Union, Jordan, Qatar and all its partners which are contributing to this new solidarity operation. France remains fully mobilized to address the humanitarian emergency in Gaza. It continues to call for all access points to be opened and for the work of humanitarian actors, international organizations and nongovernmental organizations to be facilitated, in accordance with international law.
