Milence opens truck charging park in Italy

Rome: Italy is now the sixth market for the truck charging joint venture between Daimler Truck, Traton and the Volvo Group. Milence is currently present in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Sweden and Germany. The first Italian site is located near Bagnolo San Vito, around 40 kilometres south of Verona and, according to Milence, is a strategically important location in several respects. The charging park is located on the A22 Brenner motorway between Bologna and Bolzano. This arterial road connects the Po Valley, the city of Modena and the A1 motorway with Austria and is also part of the Scandinavian-Mediterranean corridor.

Lorry drivers will find four HPC chargers with up to 400 kW on site, which supply five stopping bays. Milence plans to introduce megawatt chargers (MCS) in addition to CCS at a later date. In addition, as is usual for the company’s charging parks, there will be accommodation and sanitary facilities for drivers.

At the inauguration, Milence CEO Anja van Niersen said that the opening of the first hub in Italy demonstrates Milence’s commitment to bringing all industry players together to create a platform that will enable the next breakthrough in sustainable transport. “This hub provides Italy with a solid foundation to meet the growing demand for zero-emission transport solutions. It marks a significant leap towards the future of road transport in Italy and across Europe as we move towards a sustainable and carbon neutral future.”

Since the start of business operations in 2022, Milence has set a target of 1,700 public truck charging points for Europe within five years (by 2027). The joint venture has now specified that 570 of these are to be created by 2025 – spread across 70 locations. That is almost exactly a third of the charging points planned by 2027. The construction activities are to focus on ten countries, including the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Sweden, the UK, Denmark, Poland and Spain.
