Lisbon: Gralheira is a small village in the municipality of Cinfães, Viseu district, with a population of around just 200 people.
What makes it special? According to the statistics, Gralheira holds the title of the coldest place in all of Portugal. The village is located in Serra do Montemuro at 1,130 meters above sea level, making it the third-highest place in the country.
Winters in Gralheira are particularly harsh, with temperatures frequently dropping below zero, something uncharacteristic for Portugal. The village has even recorded a minimum temperature of -15°C.
In January, the coldest month here, the temperatures typically range from -3.0°C to a maximum of 7.3°C. The real feel drops up to -7.0°C.
