Tajani launches Italy bid for NATO southern envoy
Rome: Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani on Wednesday launched Italy’s bid for the NATO envoy on the Alliance’s southern front, defined as a “priority” for Italy.
"There are some excellent Italian candidates," he said, adding: "I think that precisely for the knowledge that Italy has of all the Mediterranean area, starting from the Balkans to Africa and the Middle East but also the Gulf area.”
“We can put at the Atlantic Alliance’s disposal high-level names with knowledge of both NATO and of the reality of the southern flank,” he told the Italian media on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Washington.
