Arsenal’s Calafiori returns to London as Italy avoid taking any risk

Rome: Bad news for the Gunners as Riccardo Calafiori suffered an injury in Italy’s Nations League match against France on Friday. The player had to abandon the pitch on the 71th minute after sensing a discomfort in his calf.

The injury was believed to be not serious by the Italy medical staff at first, as manager Luciano Spalletti himself confirmed: “We need to assess Riccardo but with our staff, we’ve a good chance to have him back with us for the next game”. Nonetheless, the Arsenal defender missed training with the Italy squad the following day, as reported by ‘Sky Sport’s Peppe Di Stefano.

Calafiori is now set to miss Italy’s next clash in the Nations League on Monday, as he left the national team camp to return to London. He will be assessed by the Arsenal medical staff in the coming weeks.

The Italian defender currently counts 2 appearances for Arsenal this season as fans wait for him to return to his EURO 2024-self. The Gunners’ next fixture will see them facing rivals Tottenham in a North London derby that Calafiori will not want to miss out on.
