Islamabad: PPP’s Parliamentary Leader, Senator Sherry Rehman, expressed her thoughts in Senate session on the recent events that transpired in the National Assembly on September 9.

She commended the Senate for showing its integrity by unanimously passing a resolution on the matter and condemning the incident in the National Assembly premises.

“Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari showed a political path forward in his speech yesterday. Along with the code of conduct, we must agree on fundamental principles,” Senator Rehman remarked. She further added, “I used to tell the PTI government to only take actions they themselves could endure. Faryal Talpur was taken away at night in an armored vehicle along with other leaders, but two wrongs do not make a right.”

Senator Rehman also expressed concern over the attitude of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members, stating, “It seems that PTI members are instructed to remain angry at all times and oppose everything in the house. You opposed the NAB amendments, yet today, Imran Khan is benefiting from those same amendments. Despite this, you continue to preach principles and politics to everyone.”

She recalled, “PTI must learn from the PPP; we have made many sacrifices. I hope you never face the same circumstances. Our leaders have embraced martyrdom. Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto was imprisoned in the heat of Sukkur. President Zardari spent 14 years in jail. When the country was burning, President Zardari said, ‘Pakistan Khappay (We want Pakistan).’ When President Asif Ali Zardari was taken into custody, he offered tea to those arresting him, without any disrespect.”

Condemning recent remarks by KP CM Ali Amin Gandapur, she stated, “Gandapur’s language was shameful. I have never seen a Chief Minister use such language, especially against women and the journalists. It was unbefitting of someone in power. PTI must apologise for his condemnable remarks and seek forgiveness.” She added, “Recently, PTI member objected to a woman’s attire in a standing committee meeting, this mindset stemmed from the PTI leadership’s past statements regarding women’s clothing.”
