Russian PM to participate in Islamabad SCO meeting

Islamabad: Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk has announced that Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) heads of government meeting in Islamabad next month.

This participation is seen as a pivotal moment for enhancing regional cooperation, with a focus on strengthening ties within the SCO framework.

Key areas of cooperation include connectivity, energy security, and addressing climate challenges, which align with the goals of both Russia and Pakistan.

The October 15-16 SCO meeting is set to foster discussions on various regional issues and promote collaboration among member states, which include China, India, Russia, and Pakistan.

The participation of Russia at the highest level indicates the country’s commitment to deepening its engagement within the SCO, a vital platform for multilateral collaboration in Eurasia.

In parallel with SCO efforts, Russia also assured its support for Pakistan’s inclusion in the BRICS bloc.

This backing reflects a significant development in Pakistan’s quest to join BRICS, a group known for shaping the global economic landscape.

At a joint news conference here with Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Overchuk emphasized Moscow’s support for Pakistan’s BRICS membership, aligning with the group’s ongoing expansion, which recently extended invitations to countries like Saudi Arabia, Iran, Egypt, and the UAE.

Pakistan’s inclusion in BRICS could enhance its global economic influence and integration into major emerging economies.

By supporting Pakistan’s entry into BRICS and participating in the upcoming SCO meeting, Russia is reinforcing its strategic partnership with Islamabad, aiming to boost bilateral ties in trade, energy, infrastructure, and regional stability.
