Zhengzhou: On December 8, a batch of fashionable clothing cargo arrived at Zhengzhou airport from Europe. Taking advantage of Zhengzhou airport’s role as both an aviation and high-speed rail hub, the goods were fast transferred to Chongqing via the Zhengzhou-Chongqing high-speed rail freight line with the collaboration between Zhongyu Aviation Group and Henan Railway Construction and Investment Group. This marks the successful completion of the first shipment under the new air-railintermodal transport model featuring “international air cargo import + domestic high-speed rail distribution” at Zhengzhou airport, which isnow under theregular operation.

Previously, Zhengzhou airport implemented the air-rail intermodal transport model of “domestic high-speed rail collection/distribution+ international air export”. With these progress, Zhengzhou airport has now pioneered a new bidirectional air-rail intermodal transport model for both international arrivals and departures, marking a new phase in the development of air-rail intermodal transportation.

Goods transported from Zhengzhou airport to Chongqing via air-rail intermodal transport have significantly reduced transportation time, cutting it by nearly half compared to road transport. Additionally, the reliability of delivery times has greatly improved. In late August this year, Zhongyu Aviation Group, in collaboration with UPS, Henan Railway Construction and Investment Group, China Railway Express Co., Ltd., etc., conducted air-rail intermodal transport test using the Zhengzhou-Chongqing high-speed rail freight line, and achieved success under the new transport model.

Compared to the traditional air-land intermodal transport model, air-rail intermodal transport, through strategic collaboration, efficiently integrates hub resources, enhances logistics distribution efficiency, and better meets the diverse transportation needs of customers. It has emerged as a crucial tool in optimizing China’s transportation structure, improving overall transport efficiency, and reducing social logistics costs.
