Bulgaria issues weather warnings over snow, rain and wind forecast for December 25
Sofia: Bulgaria’s national meteorological bureau has issued the Code Orange warning of hazardous weather for several districts for December 25 because of forecast snow and heavy rain.
The districts subject to the Code Orange warning are Smolyan, Kurdzhali, Montana, Sofia district (as distinct from the district of Sofia city), Vratsa, Lovech, Gabrovo, Veliko Turnovo, Turgovishte and Sliven.
All other districts are subject to the lesser Code Yellow warning of potentially dangerous weather, with the exception of three – Blagoevgrad, Kyustendil and Pernik – which are Code Green, meaning that no weather warning is in place.
On December 25, Bulgaria’s coastal districts are set for strong winds, according to the meteorological bureau, while the southern districts are set for rain, wind and snow.
The meteorological bureau said that in central northern Bulgaria, the western Fore-Balkans and in the Rhodope region, it will snow, and blizzards and snow drifts are possible.
Minimum temperatures will vary considerably, from about minus two degrees Celsius in the valleys in western Bulgaria to eight to minus 10 in the far south-eastern districts.
On December 25, Bulgaria’s capital city Sofia is set for a minimum temperature of zero deg C and a high of two deg C, with mixed snow and rain.
Plovdiv is forecast to see a minimum temperature of three deg C and a high of six, with rain.
At the coast, the forecast for Varna is a minimum nine and a high of 10 and for Bourgas, minimum 10 and a high of 11, both with rain.
