New passenger car registrations in Bulgaria in first two months of 2025 down 2.5% y/y

Sofia: There were 7839 new passenger car registrations in Bulgaria in January and February 2025, an decrease of 2.5 per cent compared with the first two months of 2024, the European Automobile Manufacturers Association, ACEA, said on March 25.
Of the new passenger car registrations in Bulgaria in the first two months of 2025, a total of 6108 were petrol cars, 739 diesel, 279 battery-electric, 190 hybrid-electric and 73 plug-in hybrid.
In February 2025 year-to-date, new EU car registrations declined by three per cent compared to the same period in 2024.
Notably, the bloc’s major markets saw declines, with Italy (-6 per cent), Germany (-4.6 per cent), and France (-3.3 per cent). Spain conversely recorded an 8.4 per cent increase.
In February 2025, the year-on-year decline was 3.4 per cent, with the German market seeing the sharpest decline in volume of 6.4 per cent, followed by Italy (-6.2 per cent).
Up until February 2025, battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) accounted for 15.2 per cent of total EU market share, signifying an increase from the low baseline of 11.5 per cent in the comparable period of January-February 2024.
Hybrid-electric vehicles surged, capturing 35.2 per cent of the market and remaining the preferred choice among EU consumers.
Meanwhile, the combined market share of petrol and diesel cars fell to 38.8 per cent, down from 48.5 per cent over the same period in 2024, ACEA said.
