Portugal’s Covilhã inks twin city deal with Shenzhen’s Longhua district

Lisbon: The Portuguese city of Covilhã has signed a twin city agreement with Longhua district in the Shenzhen municipality, in neighbouring Guangdong province.
The cooperation arrangement, inked on Wednesday, paves the way for strengthening not only business ties but also collaboration in areas such as culture and tourism.
“We are keen on having China as a privileged partner,” Covilhã Mayor Vítor Pereira told public service broadcaster TDM.
He added that Covilhã hopes to attract Chinese investment in health, trade, new technologies, textiles, agriculture, culture, and tourism.
Meanwhile, chambers of commerce from Covilhã and Macau signed a cooperation protocol last week to promote cross-investment. The agreement was reached between Macau’s International Lusophone Markets Business Association and the Covilhã, Belmonte and Penamacor Business Association.
