Bilawal Bhutto condemns Mir Shakilur Rehman’s arrest
Islamabad: Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has strongly condemned the arrest of editor in-chief of Geo and Jang group Mir Shakilur Rehman by the National Accountability Bureau.
Chairman Bilawal said that by the arrest of Mir Shakilur Rehman the perception of NAB as a tool for unilateral and partial accountability has strengthened. NAB has hurt its credibility and is nothing but a tool of the government to target and victimise opponents and crush them.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that the arrest of Mir Shakilur Rehman is an attack on the independence of journalism and a message to media that no criticism will be tolerated. He reminded the PTI that it has been a history of political parties and journalists of struggling together against tyranny and independence of media.
Chairman PPP said that targeting media will only create problems and this act will also mean that we would lose the moral credibility to criticise Indian Prime Minister Modi for his tyrannical actions.
