Hope increasing for peace in Afghanistan: Ambassador Stefano Pontecorvo
Kabul: NATO Senior Civilian Representative in Afghanistan Ambassador Stefano Pontecorvo on Wednesday said the hope for peace in Afgahnistan was increasing each passing day.
In a meeting with Chief Executive of Jamiat-e Islami Afghanistan and former Governor of Balkh Province Ata Mohammad Noor, the Ambassador said all parties were positive about the outcome of the dialogue process.
In a tweet, Ata Mohammad Noor said he had discussed the latest political developments. “I thanked the international community’s support in blood and treasure over the past 19 years and appreciated their steadfast support in preserving the gains made so far,” he added.
Noor said he appreciated that a national consensus had been built in regards to the ongoing peace negotiations in Qatar.
“I called upon the Taliban Movement to accept Afghans’ call on violence reduction & ceasefire. Thanked again NATO’s invaluable contribution & stance in this critical moment,” he said.
