ISLAMABAD – The Supreme Court on Friday wound up a National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) case against PPP co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari, former president retired General Pervez Musharraf and former attorney general Malik Mohammad Qayyum.
A three-member SC bench, under Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar, heard the petition in Islamabad.
Details of Zardari, Musharraf and Malik Qayyum’s assets have been received, told CJP.
Justice Nisar enquired about the whereabouts of the petitioner Feroz Shah Gillani. His lawyer told that he is ill and unable to appear before court.
Giving remarks during the proceeding, the CJP said, “A lot of development has also occurred in Omni Group case. Now the law will make its own way.”
Subsequently, the petition was dismissed.
The plea filed in July 2018 by Advocate Feroz Shah Gilani, the president of Lawyers’ Foundation for Justice, sought recovery of huge amounts of public money wasted against the backdrop of the NRO in 2007 allegedly by the aforementioned trio.
The court however; directed the petitioner in November 2018 to provide evidence with written arguments to convince the bench on the maintainability of his petition.
Former president Pervez Musharraf had promulgated NRO on October 5, 2007.
The ordinance provides amnesty to politicians by giving indemnity in all cases registered against them. This amnesty ables many of them to return country.
