Federal cabinet approves Pakistan-China agreement for solar electricity in Gwadar

Islamabad: The federal cabinet has approved an agreement between China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Authority and Chinese Ministry of Environment to provide 3,000 solar power generations to the people of Gwadar to resolve their electricity issue.
Speaking at a news briefing after the federal cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan, Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said the agreement had been given approval by the cabinet.
Recently, Pakistani Planning Minister Asad Umar said solar panels would be provided to 3,200 houses in Gwadar with Chinese help and the project would be started in March.
He maintained that since Shadi and Swad dams had been completed, the water problem would be overcome to some extent while the government was also taking steps to remove hurdles in water supply to old settlements in Gwadar town.
To support the Pakistani government, China will to install 3,200 solar panel units in various houses in Gwadar. “The project is being carried out with direct help of China,” Asad Umar announced.
He elaborated that the 3,200 solar units will be arriving in Pakistan from China at the end of January, 2022 and the installation of the panels would be completed by the end of March.
Umar pledged that he will personally monitor and keep the data of the process of installing the solar panels to ensure that everyone in Gwadar benefits from the solar electricity.
On Tuesday, Fawad Chaudhry told journalists that the agreement had been approved by the federal cabinet and will be implemented to benefit the Gwadar people.
About the Health Card programme, the minister explained that this initiative was being launched gradually in the Punjab province, while the entire population of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had already been provided this facility.
He informed that all members of a family can get treatment up to one million rupees from all government and designated private hospitals.
“This facility is available to admitted patients only. Punjab is going to contribute 400 billion rupees for this programme and Sindh government should also play its due role to provide quality health facilities to the people of Sindh,” he added.
