PML-N govt committed to CPEC: Railways Minister

Lahore: Pakistani Railways Minister Khwaja Saad Rafique has said that Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) was committed to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Speaking at a news conference here, Rafique mentioned that PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif – a three-time Prime Minister – was known for his positive stance on the CPEC.

For the CPEC, Rafique contended, Nawaz Sharif had fought on many fronts but never compromised.

“The present government (led by the PML-N) will also leave no stone unturned to implement the CPEC projects and complete them on time,” he maintained.

About the railways, Rafique stressed that structural reforms would be made to remove flaws in the system.

He claimed that the engine of progress had been put on track and soon the entire department would be mobilised. “We have come to power to work, and not a single moment will be wasted,” he added.

The minister said that funds had been arranged and no delay would be made in payment of salaries and pensions to Railways employees and pensioners.

He announced 30 percent concession in rail fare for three days from the first day of Eidul Fitr – to be celebrated in the first week of May.

He pledged that Chairman and Secretary Railways would be appointed from the railway services and the senior most officer would be appointed as the Chief Executive Officer.
