Islamabad: The government and the people of Pakistan are mourning the death of former Chinese President Jiang Zemin.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited the Embassy of China here in Islamabad to offer his condolences over the death of former Chinese President.

In a meeting with Chinese Ambassador Nong Rong, the prime minister expressed deep sorrow over the death of former president Jiang Zemin.

He contended that Jiang Zemin would always be remembered as a great leader, who played a key role in strengthening the relations between Pakistan and China. He lauded the contribution of late Jiang Zemin’s role in China’s development.

The prime minister also penned his comments in the condolence book placed at the embassy.

Earlier in the day, President Dr Arif Alvi conveyed his deepest condolences to the leadership and people of China on the demise of former President of China, Jiang Zemin.

The president remarked that former Chinese President Jiang Zemin was a distinguished statesman who, through sustained economic reforms, led China during a period of rapid growth and development, and significantly raised the standard of living in China.

He said that former President Jiang continued to deepen the friendship and people-to-people ties between the two countries.

He mentioned that President Jiang would be remembered for his services and dedication to his country.”Our thoughts are with the people of China at this time of bereavement,” he added.

In Karachi, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Thursday afternoon visited the Chinese Consulate to offer his condolences.

In a meeting with Chinese Consular General Li Bijian, FM Bilawal lauded the legacy of the former Chinese President.

Bilawal acknowledged that Jiang Zemin was a great friend of Pakistan and in his death, both Pakistan and China gave lost a sincere friend and a visionary leader.
