Imran Khan says he doesn’t deserve Nobel Peace prize

Islamabad: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday took to Twitter and expressed humility that he is not worthy of the Nobel Peace prize as a large number of people have been calling to bestow the prestigious award for the premier for releasing captured Indian pilot Abhinandan Varthaman as a peace gesture amid simmering tensions between nuclear-armed arch-rivals. The premier shared his views in a tweet, and stated that he is not worthy of the prize while the person who would really deserve that prize would be the one who solves the Kashmir dispute. “I am not worthy of the Nobel Peace prize. The person worthy of this would be the one who solves the Kashmir dispute according to the wishes of the Kashmiri people and paves the way for peace & human development in the subcontinent,” he stated. Thousands of tweets have been posted with hashtag Nobel Peace For Imran Khan since PM Khan extended olive branch to India by releasing the captured Indian Air Force officer, Wing Commander Abhinandan. Until Sunday, more than 300,000 people had signed online petitions calling for the award of Nobel Peace Prize to Khan. Earlier, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry submitted a resolution to the National Assembly Secretariat calling for Imran Khan to be given the prestigious prize for “his contribution towards peace in the region”. The resolution stated that the PM had played a sagacious role in reducing spiking tensions between Pakistan and India which were being incited by warmongering attitude of the Indian leadership. Twitterati from both sides of the eastern border erupted in appreciation for PM Khan’s announcement during a joint parliamentary session held on last Thursday in Pakistan. During the session, the PM stated “In our desire for peace, I announce that tomorrow, and as a first step to open negotiations, Pakistan will be releasing the Indian Air Force officer in our custody.” Since then, the general public on the social media and particularly Twitter have been praising him for the “Real statesmanship.”
