UK long range forecast: Hot temperatures finally to return after torrential downpours

London: Hot temperatures are set to return across Britain after weeks of “unsettled” wet weather has caused widespread torrential rain.

Temperatures as high as 27C are expected to hit the UK on August 8, according to the latest weather maps.

Weather experts suggest south east England could see temperatures of 30C, but a warmer August will mean thunderstorms are more likely.

“I think that probably is going to be correct. It’ll be from the southeast to the northwest. The first place to see warmer weather will be the southeast,” Jim Dale, senior meteorologist at British Weather Services told The Express.

“I think it’s transitory. It’s not necessarily settled or a heatwave with 20 days of sun.

“Having said that, we will be in August by then and this time of year is the warmest on average. We can expect to see some of that [heat] and it’s long overdue.”

The weather expert added that temperatures will gradually increase but there will be possible outbreaks of rain.

He said: “But there will be periods of dry weather [in August]. That’s the direction of travel. We’ll probably end up losing the Jet Stream that’s over us. That will kick off north, then we’ll get into the warmer scenario.”

On Wednesday, weather maps suggest that at midday on August 8 temperatures will reach 27C in London with much of eastern England and the Midlands seeing 20C to 26C.

It will be cooler along the coast with highs between 19C to 22C, while temperatures in Wales will reach 18C to 19C.

Scotland and Northern Ireland will see 10C to 15C, according to Netweather.tv.

Dale said there it it likely that Britain will see more settled weather around August 10 to 11, following recent spells of sunshine and showers.

He added: “For the moment it remains changeable with frontal systems moving in.”

The latest forecast suggests Wednesday night will see cloud and rain continuing to spread in from the west through the evening, though the east coast may see some late evening sunshine, according to Meteogroup UK.

Thursday is expected to wet conditions with rain and showers affecting many, particularly in northern England and Scotland.
